Roxy Gallery verandah

Wednesday December 13th • 10am-3pm or so

You are invited to be part of a community learning activity to reclaim the void. A group of Kyogle and Northern Rivers people will meet up on the Verandah of the Roxy Gallery to make rugs from recycled fabric. The rugs will be sent to WA to be part of this huge exhibition and put Kyogle’s name on the map as a contributor to reconciliation and sharing knowledge.

The Western Australian Museum is sponsoring this important project using textiles to promote understanding of Aboriginal culture and languages.

Made collaboratively by people from across the globe, the rugs will be stitched together to form a pattern telling a Ngalia story of country. All Australians are being invited to make a rug to contribute to a huge work which will cover a part of country in the WA desert damaged by mining.

Please bring a plate to share, a hoola hoop (or embroidery hoop) and cotton sheets of one colour. The cotton breaks down and each colour will represent a dot in the overall design.

Featuring 35 artists from Australia, USA, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, Hungary, UK, Japan, India and France.

23nd September - 11th November

Fay Mars

11am Saturday 9th September

On Saturday 9th September at 11am Gail Fay (aka Fay Mars ) will be hosting a fun, interactive Book Launch for kids!

Kombi Kapers is an adventure story based on a talking Kombi van named Felicity.

This book came about through Gails’s chance encounter with a painter, and illustrator named Riki Mason, who had done a series of illustrations based on her honeymoon road trip from Sydney to Far North Queensland some 40 years ago. Riki had an idea for the story and completed illustrations for a children’s adventure book.

Woodenbong Arts Group

31 August - 17 September 2023

Opening event: Thursday 31 August - 1-3pm

Woodenbong artist Jim Grasby saw the need for his community to have an incorporated group for local artists to join so they could support and encourage each other as well as develop their talents to showcase the enormous amount of creative talent west of the range by holding exhibitions, markets and workshops together.

He gathered a few interested community members and formed the incorporated association known as the Woodenbong Arts Group (WAG).

WAG has provided people living west of the range a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and share their interest in the arts. The group has welcomed associated members of the Bonalbo Artists Alliance (BAA) and together a fantastic collection of creative people has formed to participate in the many exhibitions held in the Roxy Gallery over the years.

This year WAG and BAA are coming together to exhibit a new body of works in Celebration – A Tribute to Jim Grasby to show their gratitude to Jim for the enormous amount of energy and enthusiasm he has imparted over the years to the arts in the community.
